- FILE FINDER APPLICATION version 1.30
- ====================================
-
- This program is loaded from the Desktop by clicking on its
- icon. It will then install itself on the icon bar.
-
- The program is fully documented using the Interactive Help
- Application (!Help) from the Archimedes Applications Disc 1.
-
- The program is 'intelligent' and will make available for
- search any Archimedes standard filing system, including floppy,
- hard, ram and network systems. These can be cycled through using
- the arrows by the 'Drive' box. If the filing system is not
- installed, it will not be presented as a choice.
-
- When using the network search option, to force the computer
- to search a different network disc, type ':<disc name>.' in front
- of the root directory name. NB The utility can not cope with
- directories containing more than 77 files; files after the 77th
- will be ignored.
-
- Presenting the program with a filename, which can include
- all standard wildcards, will produce a complete filename for any
- file which satisfies those conditions. The more accurate the
- file specification offered, the more accurately the required file
- will be located. A search can be confined to specific
- directories or a whole hard disc! The search is limited to a
- maximum of 10 directory levels below the search directory. If
- you need more (honestly?) perhaps your filing system should be
- reviewed!
-
- For example :
-
- Entering '$.RISCapps' as the root directory and '!A*' as the
- required file will list two files.
-
- $.RISCapps.!Alarm
- $.RISCapps.!Alarm.!Alarm
-
- But, entering the same root directory but '*A*' as the
- required file will list 70 possibilities if both applications
- discs have been copied onto a hard disc (try it!).
-
- Similarly, offering the filename 'IntMetrics' with no
- further data will produce the three possible filenames of
-
- $.RISCapps.!Fonts.Corpus.Medium.IntMetrics
- $.RISCapps.!Fonts.Portrhouse.Standard.IntMetrics
- $.RISCapps.!Fonts.Trinity.Medium.IntMetrics
-
- Further information on any file located can be obtained as
- usual by typing *INFO or *FILEINFO.
